Furber ties school record as Maine Field Hockey wins, Women’s Soccer falls on the road

In Orono at the Maine Field Hockey Complex on Sunday afternoon- Maine got five goals from Zoe Furber, and rolled over the University of New Haven 9-0. The Black Bears outshot the Chargers 31-0 (21-0 on goal). New Haven is in their first season at the Division I level and drops to 0-5. The five goal performance by Furber were the most goals scored in a single game by a Maine player since Gina Ferazzi also posted five in 1983. Her 10-point day matched Ferazzi and Kelly Newton (2009) for 10-point single game school record performances. Eloise Penty, Floor Dijkhuizen, Julia Pieters, and Olivia Geniti also notched one goal each. Rozarie Mrazova played in net for Maine who improves their record to 3-3. The Black Bears stay at home to host Northeastern on Friday at 3 p.m.

At Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Connecticut also on  Sunday afternoon- UConn scored the first three goals of the game, and would defeat Maine women’s soccer 3-1. Abbey Thornton (Windham High School) had the lone Black Bears goal by tallying in the 60th minute. It was the second of the season for Thornton. Freshman Elena Barenberg (Germany) in her first collegiate game made three saves in the loss. Maine (1-4-1) opens up America East play next Sunday on the road at Albany with a scheduled 3 p.m. kickoff.
