The University of Maine Field Hockey team fell short in a pair of non-conference games on the road on Friday and Sunday afternoon against Monmouth and Drexel.
On Friday in New Jersey- Maine stunned the #14 nationally ranked hosts from Monmouth by putting up the first nine shots on goal of the game, and getting on the board as Olivia Geniti and Martha Barratt scored 1:11 apart in the second quarter for a 2-0 lead. The Hawks would rally in that period as they got tallies from Keely Bowers, Claire Campen, and Ava Zerfass in a span of 2:12 and would then hold on in the final 30 minutes for the 3-2 victory to move to 7-1 on the season. Saylor Kuefler also picked up an assist on the Geniti goal in the Black Bears loss. Jayde Temby (1st half) and Rozarie Mrazova (2nd half) split time in net and made a total of seven saves.
In Pennsylvania on Sunday- Pili Lemoine scored a game winning second quarter goal, as Drexel held on to beat Maine 2-1. Barratt tallied the only Black Bears marker on the afternoon in the third on assists from Geniti and Saylor Kuefler. Mrazova played the entire contest in the cage and made five saves. Maine (3-6) now gets set to open the America East Conference schedule next Friday at Albany in New York at 1 p.m.
