Gardiner shuts out Brewer to remain unbeaten in Class C Football action

BREWER- The Gardiner Tigers got three touchdown runs from Owen Chadwick and also forced four first half turnovers by Brewer on Friday night to build a commanding lead, culminating in a 32-0 Class C football win on homecoming for the Witches at Historic Doyle Field.

Gardiner (4-0), after a late comeback win over Wells last week, picked up where they left off taking the opening kickoff and jumping on top for good when quarterback Isaac Madore connected for a 44-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Elliott. After a Brewer fumble was returned deep into their own territory with their first possession, Chadwick scored on a short run on the next play to extend the advantage to 13-0. Witches quarterback Eli Wall was intercepted near the end of the first quarter, and Chadwick capitalized on that turnover by racing into the secondary and breaking a tackle on his way to a 41-yard TD run on the first play of the second quarter. Brewer had one of their better opportunities on the night to score the next time they had the ball, driving to their opponents 29-yard line but on 4th and 10 Wall was intercepted for a third time in the first half. After the Tigers committed their only turnover of the contest, an interception by Brody Muncey of the Witches near his own endzone, Brewer was backed up at their own 1-yard line and were then forced to punt. Gardiner returned it to the 8. That led to a beautiful play by Madore who was rushed and rolled out to his right, tossing up an off balance throw that Chase McGrane went up and grabbed away from his defender in the back of the endzone for a 6-yard touchdown to make it 26-0 at the break. Chadwick found paydirt for the third and final time ending the scoring with a 2-yard run late in the third quarter.

Both teams are in action again next week as Gardiner hosts Medomak on Friday night, and Brewer (2-2) hits the road to play York in Dover, New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
