The nationally ranked #7 Bates College Field Hockey continued the historical start to their season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off #9 Amherst College 2-1 in a NESCAC game played at Hill Field in Amherst, Massachusetts.
After Molly Donegan put Amherst on top 3:10 into the first quarter, Bates tied it in the second when Lucy Norris tallied off an assist from Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg. Just over five minutes later, Amy Labelle notched the game winner for the Bobcats off a helper from Caroline Nowak. The guests only had three shots on goal in the game, with two of them going in but that was enough to improve their program best NESCAC record to 4-0. Ava Donohue made six saves in the cage. Bates now matches the 1973 team for the best start to a season at 8-0, and will face another top 10 team at home next Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on #5 Williams in Lewiston.
