In Howland Saturday, the Penobscot Valley girls soccer team celebrated their homecoming day with a 5-0 victory over the Central Lady Red Devils.
PVHS got on the board less than 8 minutes into the game, as junior Baleigh Leet sent a ball from the back line to Rylee Moulton in the middle of the field. Moulton made a quick move against an oncoming defender gave her breathing up the field, where she patiently cut back inside the goal box and found the back of the net. Lila Cummings scored the second one for the Howlers of the first half, when she bent a corner kick in off the back post for an unassisted goal.
Moulton would strike again just five minutes into the second half, as Cummings headed the ball to her close to the 18 yard line. Moulton got a step on the defender and found the left corner. She would finish off the hat trick as she lofted the ball from the right pitch that went off the outstretched fingers of the goaltender and across the goal line. The final goal of the game came from wing Parker Theriault, as she followed up a blast from Cummings and buried the ball into the net. The three goals by Moulton put her career totals up to 104, while Cummings career numbers goes to 88 goals and an astounding 70 assists.
With the win Penobscot Valley improves to 8-2 on the season. Brooklynn Raymond saved all ten shots she faced, as her and the defense registered their 6th shutout of the season. The Lady Howlers will host 7-1-1 Bucksport on Tuesday. Central of East Corinth drops to 1-8-1 and will travel to Houlton on Monday. Goalie Madelynn Frost stopped 16 of 23 shots.
