Maine men’s basketball drops road game at Stony Brook

Stony Brook put three players in double figures on Saturday evening in defeating Maine 71-60 in a non-conference men’s basketball game played in Stony Brook, New York.

The Black Bears never led, and would fall behind 26-13 in the first half at the 10:42 mark. Maine would answer though, ending the opening 20 minutes on a 24-12 run sparked by eight points from senior guard Ryan Mabrey to slice the deficit to 38-37 at the break.

Maine would stay within striking distance for the first part of the second half, as they trailed just 45-42 with 13:07 left to play. The Black Bears would only shoot 6-22 from the field (0-6 three-pointers) in the second half and would go through a pair of five minute stretches where they didn’t record a made field goal, as Stony Brook out of the Coastal Athletic Association was able to hold on to improve their record to 2-0.

Erik Pratt led the Seawolves with 19 points and five rebounds. Rob Brown III put in 16 points and grabbed four boards, while Richard Goods recorded a double double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots. Mabrey had 14 points (3-7 three-pointers) in the loss for the Black Bears. Bashir N’Galang chipped in 11 points, and TJ Biel had nine points and seven rebounds. Ace Flagg and Mekhi Gray contributed eight points each, with Flagg also ripping down eight rebounds. Maine is now 0-2 and will be on the road again on Monday when they take on Rutgers out of the Big 10 Conference at 6:30 p.m.
