The University of Maine Fort-Kent men’s and women’s soccer teams competed in the USCAA Division I National Tournament in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania over the weekend.
The Bengals women’s team dropped their first game to Virginia State on Friday, but would win the third place contest over Bryant & Stratton Syracuse 3-2 on Saturday. Kamoy Brown scored the tying goal in the 71st minute, while Rosaria Talbot tallied the game winner in the 80th minute as UMFK finished up their season at 8-8-6.
The Bengals men’s team beat Five Towns College on Friday and Bryant & Stratton Rochester on Saturday to advance to the national championship game. In the final on Sunday, UMFK had a 3-1 second half lead on goals from Rohane Brown, DeAndre Smith, and Javel Clarke, but Salem University (7-8-6) rallied on two markers by Caleb Christner and a penalty kick tally by Ahmad Hijaz in the 79th minute to take the title. The Bengals men finished their great run at 10-3-4.
