The University of Maine women’s hockey team took on Harvard in non-conference action on Friday and Saturday afternoon at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Boston.
On Friday afternoon- Gracie Hanson scored her second goal of the season in overtime, as Maine won the series opener 4-3. Raegan Wurm, MacKenzie Podewell, and Lily Fetch had the other Black Bear goals. Harvard sent it to the extra session on an extra attacker tally by Ella Lucia at 19:40 of the third period. The game winner by Hanson 3:13 into overtime was assisted by Wurm and Breanna Curl. Kiia Lahtinen earned the victory in net with 22 saves.
On Saturday afternoon- Harvard scored three times in the second period, and split the weekend with a 5-1 win. Lila Shea opened the scoring with a highlight reel goal for Maine at 9:52 of the first period. Surrounded by two defenders in the low slot, Shea chopped at it and the puck floated over the shoulder of Crimson goalie Ainsley Tuffy glove side and into the net. Harvard found the equalizer at 13:57 of the opening stanza, and then got a game winner on the powerplay from Keira Ley at 3:40 of the second as they would score five unanswered to improve to 6-5-1 on the season. Jaidyn Britt had an assist on the Shea goal for the Black Bears, and Julia Bachetti in her first appearance of the year in between the pipes made 23 saves. Maine is now 5-11-1 overall, and will take their 2-5-1 Hockey East record into a two game league series at UNH in Durham next Friday and Saturday.
