PVHS boys basketball rolls past Lee Academy

In Howland on Tuesday, the Penobscot Valley boys basketball team had perhaps their most complete game of the season on both ends of the court in beating Lee Academy 70-34.

Not only did they have balanced scoring with their players (10 of 11 team members scored), but the scoring and defense was consistent throughout the entire contest scoring 17 or 18 points in all 4 quarters while allowing only 8 or 9 points in all four.

Senior Noah Austin was a force offensively, scoring 19 points through three quarters and adding two more during limited minutes of the final frame for a game-high of 21. Austin also collected 12 rebounds, half of which coming from the offensive glass. Darius Miranda and Chase Osgood each had the inside/outside scoring going, with both knocking down two 3-pointers to go along with their 2-point field goals. Miranda scored 16 points and Osgood finished with 10. Senior Ryan Dawson also netted 10 points for the winners. Other scoring on the night came from Max Hamel with four, two each from Drouin Brochu, Aiden Champion, Logan Wallace, and Seamus Herlihy, while Caleb Collins connected on one free throw. Brochu also finished with 10 boards. With the win, PVHS moves to 6-6 on the season and will host Woodland Thursday.

Lee was paced by Connor Pickering, who led his team with nine points. Also in the scoring column was Caden Pullen with seven, Austen Jipson and Dillon Tozier with six each, Matthew Poulin with three, and two a piece from Ali Cavusoglu and EJ Burrill. The Pandas drop to 1-11 on the season, and will host Southern Aroostook on Thursday in a rematch from a December game that ended in an SA buzzer-beating win.
