Husson women’s basketball comes up with huge NAC sweep over UMF and Maine Maritime Academy

The Husson women’s basketball team came up with a huge North Atlantic Conference sweep on Friday and Saturday at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor, sending both UMaine-Farmington and Maine Maritime Academy to their second league loss.

On Friday- The Eagles used a decisive 17-9 third quarter and knocked off the Beavers 52-38. Saige Evans (Old Town) and Danielle Dow (MCI) both recorded double doubles in the victory. Evans had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Dow had 10 points and 10 rebounds. UMF had no scorers in double figures and were led by Melissa Mayo (Lake Region) with seven points, while Sarah Poli (Lawrence) and Lilly Gray (Lawrence) contributed six each as the Beavers are now 13-5 and 11-2 in the NAC.

On Saturday- Husson outscored Maine Maritime Academy 22-12 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 75-71 win. Lilly Roy (Wisdom) had the game winning layup with three seconds left, while Evans would hit two at the foul line after a Mariners turnover with one second to go to ice it. Hailey Blanchard led Maine Maritime with a game-high 25 points (4-7 three-pointers), as their record is now 12-7 and 11-2 in the NAC. Roy led the way for the Eagles with 24 points (three 3-pointers). Sophia Carnes and Laela Martinez both put in 15 points, while Evans once again finished with a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore now has a double double in nine straight games. Husson is now 12-7 and 11-2 in league play, and will return to action on Saturday at UMaine-Presque Isle.

The Beavers, Mariners, and Eagles are now in a three way tie for first place in the North Atlantic Conference East Division at 11-2.
