Maine put five players in double figures, and used a 15-4 second half run to pull away from Binghamton 79-63 in America East men’s basketball action on Skip Chappelle Court at Memorial Gymnasium in Orono on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats held a pair of two point leads in the opening couple minutes, before the Black Bears used a 12-0 spurt and wouldn’t trail again capped off by a dunk by TJ Biel. Binghamton would hang around and would be down just a single point at the break 37-36. With Maine up 43-42 with 17:28 left in the game, they would go on that 15-4 run over the next 4:56 with Makhi Gray nailing a three-pointer to extend their advantage to 58-46. The guests never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Binghamton also put five players in double figures in the loss led by Jackson Benigni who had 13 points. Jeremiah Quigley and Bryson Wilson both put in 12 points. The Bearcats fall to 4-18 and 0-7 in America East. Logan Carey was the leading scorer for Maine with 19 points. Ryan Mabrey had 18 points (7-8 FG, 4-5 three-pointers), Gray contributed 15 points and four rebounds, and Amare Allen had 12 points. Ace Flagg also recorded 11 points (3-4 three-pointers) and five rebounds. The Black Bears are now 5-17 and 3-4 in conference play and will travel to UMass-Lowell to take on the Riverhawks next Saturday at 2 p.m.
