PVHS boys basketball rolls past Lee, will host a prelim game

At Lee Thursday evening, Penobscot Valley got a big night from senior Noah Austin as the Howlers won their season finale over Lee Academy 70-43.

After some cold shooting early, PVHS started getting some good looks in and around the paint and held a 10 point lead after the first. The Howler defense continued to do a great job contesting shots throughout the half, and went into the locker room with a 28-12 lead. The offense by both teams increased dramatically in the second half, with PVHS scoring 42 points after the break and the Pandas putting in 31.

Austin finished with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Fellow senior Darius Miranda had a balanced game, connecting on three 3-pointers and finishing with 15 points, six assists, five boards, and two steals. Center Drouin Brochu scored 12 points to end in double figures as well. The Howlers had nine players in the scoring column, including six from Aiden Champion (to go along with six steals), five each from Chase Osgood and Max Hamel, four each from Ryan Dawson and Nolan Bernard, and two from Seamus Herlihy. PVHS wrapped up the regular season winning seven of their final eight games with an overall record of 11-7. They jumped up to the #7 seed in the heal point standings and will host Stearns in a prelim contest on Wednesday February 11th at 6:00 pm at George Sereyko Memorial Gym in Howland.

Lee Academy was led by Austen Jipson who had 15 points, while Caden Pullen added 11. Other scorers included Brayden Tozier with eight, E.J. Burrill with five, Connar Pickering with three, and Dillon Tozier with two. Lee ended the season with a 2-16 record and prior to the game they recognized the three seniors on the team in Brayden Tozier, Caden Pullen, and E.J. Burrill. Also recognized was senior Elisha Teasdale from the JV team.
