Maine baseball splits a doubleheader with Duke in season openers

The Maine baseball team opened their 2026 season on Friday by splitting a doubleheader against ACC opponent Duke down in Durham, North Carolina.

After an 8-3 loss in game one, the Black Bears took advantage of a ninth inning balk in taking a 4-3 victory in game two over the Blue Devils. It is the first win in program history for Maine over Duke. Christopher Mondesir had a RBI infield hit in the victory, while Juju Stevens and Albert De La Rosa hit back to back solo homeruns in the fourth inning. Brennan Rumpf (Falmouth) started on the mound and went 3.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Marshall Lock, Sebastian Holt, and Jack Donlin were all solid in relief. Lock and Holt both pitched 2.0 scoreless innings, with Holt picking up the pitching win. Donlin struckout all three batters he faced in the ninth to get his first career save. The teams finish off their series with another doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
