It’s going to be a party up in Lincoln. Addison Cyr had a game-high 25 points and recorded a double double on Saturday night, as Mattanawcook Academy won their first ever girls basketball state championship by beating Spruce Mountain 54-40 in the Class C final at the Augusta Civic Center.
The Lynx led the entire way, including building a 14-3 advantage in the first quarter. The Phoenix would battle back cutting it to 35-34 at one point in the third, but keys baskets by Cyr and Megan House in the fourth quarter put it away for Mattanawcook. Cyr had 23 rebounds, as MA outrebounded Spruce 39-21. House added 14 points and five rebounds, as the Lynx capped off an unblemished season at 22-0 to capture their first gold ball. Natasha McDonald had 20 points for Spruce Mountain, who was also seeking their first title, and finish as runner-up at 20-2.
