The entire field for the Division III men’s and women’s basketball tournament were announced on Monday, and the state of Maine once again will be well represented.
On the men’s side, the University of Maine-Farmington, St. Joseph’s College, and Bates College are the participants from the Pine Tree State. The Monks enter the tournament on a 17-game win streak. Below is the first round schedule involving Maine teams-
Friday, March 6th
Bates College (18-8) vs Yeshiva University (20-8)- 1 p.m. (Montclair, New Jersey)
St. Joseph’s College (20-8) vs Babson College (21-6)- 4:30 p.m. (Hartford, Connecticut)
UMaine-Farmington (22-5) at #10 Montclair State (25-2)- 5:15 p.m.
On the women’s side, both Bates College and Bowdoin College will play at least in one round of games and host the opening two rounds. The University of Southern Maine will also be playing in Brunswick at Bowdoin and will take on former Ellsworth standout Grace Jaffray and her Johnson & Wales (Providence) team. The University of Maine-Farmington received a really tough draw in having to travel to two-time defending national champion New York University. NYU is on an 87 game win streak. Here is the schedule for the women’s tournament involving Maine teams-
University of Southern Maine (25-2) vs Johnson & Wales (23-4)- 5:15 p.m. (at Bowdoin- Brunswick, Maine)
United States Merchant Marine Academy (23-4) at #15 Bates College (24-3)- 7:15 p.m.
Emmanuel College (21-7) at #8 Bowdoin College (24-2)- 7:45 p.m.
UMaine-Farmington (21-7) at #1 New York University (25-0)- 7:45 p.m.
