Adrianna Smith of Maine women’s basketball was named a finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award on Wednesday.
Maine joins a list of just four other schools (South Dakota St., Drake, Princeton, South Dakota) that have had multiple players be named a finalist at least once, as Smith is the second one named in program history (Blanca Millan, 2021). The Black Bears redshirt senior, who is averaging 22.8 points per game and 10.5 rebounds, has helped her team reach the America East Conference Championship game by recording 19 double doubles on the season (nine of them in a row currently). She is joined in the final vote by five other players. The award will be announced on April 1st.
