Juju Stevens records four hits, and Gianni Gambardella picks up the win on the mound as Maine baseball tops Lowell

Juju Stevens had four hits and knocked in a run, and freshman Troy Carpenter provided a two-run single in the fourth inning that ended up as the game winner as Maine topped UMass-Lowell 9-5 down at LeLacheur Field in Lowell, Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon in America East baseball action.

Hunter St. Denis added three hits and one RBI, while Quinn Murphy and Drew Reynolds also contributed two hits and one RBI each. Sean O’Leary and Carlos Martinez both had two hits and a RBI in the loss for the Riverhawks, who drop to 9-14 and 2-3 in America East. Gianni Gambardella (2-3) spun the first 7.0 innings on the mound for Maine and picked up the win allowing four runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Sebastian Holt and Brennan Rumpf (Falmouth) each went an inning out of the bullpen to help close it out. The Black Bears pick up their fourth win of the year (4-20), and improve to 2-3 in the conference. The teams will play the rubber match of their series on Sunday at noontime.
