Husson softball stays unbeaten in NAC play with home doubleheader sweep over UMF

BANGOR- #21 Husson University softball continued to get dominant pitching and timely hitting on Saturday afternoon, and stayed undefeated in North Atlantic Conference play by sweeping rival UMaine-Farmington at O’Keefe Field.

Game 1- Husson 7, UMF 1: The Beavers scored their only run of the day and had their only lead when Jessica Dow (Thornton Academy) hit a RBI double in the first inning off Ana Lang (Searsport). The Eagles tied it off Natalie Simpson (Bucksport) on a double off the bat of Allie Casavant in the second, and Morgan Tainter singled in what turned out to be the game winner in a three-run fifth inning. Jetta Shook (Bucksport) drove in two and was 2-3 (double, single, 1 RBI) off her former high school teammate while Simpson was in the game. Shook had three total hits. Camryn King (Nokomis), Morgan Curtis (Gray-New Gloucester), Lydia Rice (Winthrop), and Tainter had two hits a piece. Rice drove in two and King scored twice. Dow, Maddie Pike (Kennebunk), Emily Collins (Valley), and Melissa Mayo (Lake Region) had the hits for UMF. Simpson (3-4) took the loss in the circle allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Lang (12-3) went the distance for Husson giving up one run on four hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Game 2- Husson 5, UMF 0: Rice had a first inning RBI single and that is all that was needed as the Eagles blanked the Beavers to sweep the doubleheader. King added two more hits and also had two RBI. UMF was held to three hits in dropping their record to 7-14 and 4-3 in the North Atlantic Conference. Emma DeBoer (1-5) suffered the pitching defeat allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in the complete game effort. Sierra Yates (6-1) spun the complete game shutout for Husson giving up three hits while walking one and striking out eight. The Eagles are now 23-4 and 6-0 in league play, and will play another rival in NAC action on Tuesday when they travel to Thomas College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
