Hunter St. Denis, Albert De La Rosa, and Chris Bear all had two RBI each on Sunday as Maine baseball moved back within two games of first place Binghamton in America East while winning their fifth straight conference series in a 7-3 victory over the Bearcats in Vestal, New York.
Maine used three run innings in both the third and fourth to help build a 7-1 lead. St. Denis hit his third homerun of the series, a two-run shot in the third while Bear drove in a run with a single. In the fourth, De La Rose contributed a two-run single and Bear brought home another with a sacrifice fly that went for a RBI.
Zach Kent had two RBI in the loss for Binghamton, who falls to 24-18 and 13-5 in America East. Mason Holloway (2-3) was tagged with the pitching defeat as he gave up four runs on six hits in 2.2 innings. Nic Pepe continued to be a problem for opposing teams at the leadoff spot as he reached base four times for Maine with a double and three walks. St. Denis, Brody Rasmussen, Shane Andrus, Quinn Murphy, and Bear all had two hits a piece. Vaun Larisa (3-3) had another solid outing on the mound picking up his third straight win allowing one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Brennan Rumpf (Falmouth) and Sebastian Holt would both pitch out of the bullpen in the final three innings to finish it up. The Black Bears have won every league series since losing two out of three games to UMBC to begin conference play back in late March. Maine (17-27, 11-7 in America East) will host UMass-Lowell for a three game series next weekend at Mahaney Diamond with Game 1 set for Friday at 4 p.m.
