Evan Baschnagel, Kyle Douin (Cony), Caleb Vacchiano (Sacopee), and Mike Anquillare all drove in two runs each on Wednesday morning in lifting the University of Southern Maine to a 10-6 baseball win over Vermont State University Castleton in the opening game of the Little East Conference Tournament in Gorham.
Baschnagel homered and scored three times, while Douin and Carter Higgins also scored two runs each. Higgins also had one hit and one RBI. Colin McDonald (Gorham) improved to 9-1 as he got the pitching win allowing six runs (three earned) over 6.0 innings. The top seeded Huskies (27-10) will now face the loser of #3 UMass Dartmouth and #4 Eastern Connecticut on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
