Thomas College baseball exploded for nine runs in their last three at bats on Thursday night, and fought off elimination by defeating Vermont State University Lyndon 16-14 at the North Atlantic Conference Tournament at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.
The Terriers scored four of those nine runs in the ninth to eliminate the Hornets and kept their season alive after a 16-11 loss to SUNY Cobleskill earlier in the evening. DJ Cagnina (Marshwood) had three hits and three RBI to lead the way, while Evan Nadeau (Brewer) also had three hits and drove in two. Both Cagnina and Nadeau would homer. Hayden Dippner (Mt. Blue) chipped in two RBI. Brody Walsh (Mt. Blue) was solid out of the bullpen to keep his team in the game allowing just two runs while walking two and striking out seven in four innings of relief to get the win. Tredell Blow had a two-run double and a three-run homerun in the loss for VTSU Lyndon, while Eyon Tembreull had four hits and four RBI. The Hornets wrap up their season with a record of 16-25. Thomas (19-20) will play the loser of the Husson/SUNY Cobleskill game in an elimination contest at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
