The Maine baseball team swept a three game series over Albany on Saturday afternoon with a 11-6 America East win in the regular season finale at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
The hosts broke a 5-5 tie by scoring six times in the seventh inning. Quinn Murphy had the big hit with a three-run double. Jaxon Mueller had another big performance for Albany with three hits and three RBI including a homerun. The Great Danes (15-33, 9-15 America East) finish as the #6 seed and will get a rematch with #3 Maine in a single elimination conference playoff game next Wednesday in Vestal, NY. Murphy had two hits and three RBI for the Black Bears. Juju Stevens added a three-run double, Hunter St. Denis hit a two-run homer, while Nic Pepe had two hits, two RBI, and scored two runs. Brennan Rumpf (Falmouth) picked up his second win of the season (2-1) in relief allowing one run on three runs in 2.1 innings. Maine (21-30, 14-10) and Albany meet on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the America East Tournament being hosted by Binghamton, who is the top seed in the field. The winner of the single elimination games advance to the double elimination portion of the postseason Thursday-Saturday.
