Klimpke scores game winner, Wickström Stumer wins Alfond Arena debut as Black Bears men’s hockey beats Colgate

Tanner Klimpke scored a game winning first period goal, and Petter Wickström Stumer picked up his first win in net while wearing a Maine jersey, as the Black Bears blanked Colgate 3-0 in a non-conference men’s hockey matchup at Alfond Arena in Orono on Friday night.

Klimpke buried his third goal of the season on a rebound on the powerplay at 14:32 of that first period. Loic Usereau extended the lead 3:30 into the second. Isa Parekh slid the puck from right to left to Usereau, who took one stride and released a wrist shot from just above the left faceoff circle beating Colgate goalie Reid Dyck glove side up over his right shoulder. A beautiful setup from Will Gerrior to Lee Parks finished the scoring at 12:01 of the third period. Gerrior from along the right wing boards backhanded a pass to Parks, who one-timed it into the net from the left circle short side on Dyck. Wickström Stumer played big in net, making the saves he needed to especially during scrambles out in front as the Raiders outplayed the Black Bears for portions of the game.

Dyck made 34 saves in the loss for Colgate (0-5). The Raiders went 0-5 on the powerplay. Klimpke also added an assist to his game winning goal for Maine, while Owen Fowler, Max Scott, Sully Scholle, Parekh, and Gerrior all added one assist each. Parks is now on a four game goal scoring streak. The Black Bears (3-2) would go 1-2 on the powerplay. The Canisius transfer Wickström Stumer playing in his Alfond Arena debut made 24 saves and recorded his second career shutout. The teams will finish off their two game series on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
