Binghamton stays unbeaten in America East, rallies to tie Maine women’s soccer in the Black Bears regular season home finale

The Maine women’s soccer team lost their chance at possibly finishing as the top seed in America East, as first place Binghamton rallied to force a 2-2 tie in the regular season home finale at the New Balance Soccer Complex in Orono on Sunday afternoon.

Aja Turner on an assist from Abbey Thornton (Windham) in the 10th minute, and Sandrine Brault on a helper from Turner in the 32nd minute had the Black Bears up 2-0. The Bearcats responded, as seven minutes after the Brault goal, Crystal Knoell put the guests on the board. Jahkaya Davis scored the equalizer, her ninth of the season, in the 74th minute as Binghamton (8-2-5) remained unbeaten in America East at 4-0-3 and clinches the regular season title. Elena Barenberg had two saves for Maine (6-5-4, 3-2-2 in the conference). The Black Bears, who can finish anywhere from 2nd-6th in the America East standings, will play their regular season finale at UMBC next Sunday at 12 p.m. A 3rd or 4th place finish would give them a home game for the quarterfinals, while finishing 2nd would give them an automatic bye into a home semifinal.
