Wisdom gets game winner with 13 seconds left in regional championship victory

Cayden Hargrove scored four goals to help lead Wisdom to a 5-4 win over PCHS in the 8-player boys soccer Northern Maine Championship game played on Tuesday afternoon at Brewer

The Pirates scored first when Nate Beckwith got one on an assist from Chase Lander with 13:07 left in the first half. The Pirates held that lead until Hargrove evened the score 1:51 into the second half.

Hargrove gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead with 19:32 left. He added two more in a 1:11 span to give Wisdom a 4-1 lead with 11:36 left. PCHS responded quickly, 19 seconds after the Hargrove goal, as Lander scored two goals in a 16-second span to cut the deficit to 4-3. Lander got his third goal of the game to tie the score at 4 with 6:29 remaining in the second half.

It looked like the game would go to overtime but Hargrove and Zeek Cyr had other ideas. Hargrove assisted on a Cyr goal with 13 seconds remaining to give the Pioneers the regional championship. Wisdom will play Telstar in the state championship game scheduled for Saturday in Presque Isle.
