Shaw, Ward help Central get past Old Town

OLD TOWN- The Central Red Devils led from start to finish on Thursday afternoon, and put three players in double figures to pick up a 63-46 Class B North boys win over the Old Town Coyotes at MacKenzie Gym in Old Town.

Central (5-1) led by as many as 18 points in the contest and led by a 34-21 count at halftime. Micah Ward led the first half attack for the Devils with 11 points (including three 3 pointers). Ryan Hoogterp held Old Town in the game with his 11 first half points.

Old Town got as close as 10 points late in the fourth quarter at 56-46, but Central closed the game on a 7-0 run, knocking down some clutch foul shots. The teams combined to shoot just 31-54 at the foul line.

Caleb Shaw filled up the stat sheet for Central. Shaw had 14 second half points (10 in the the third quarter) to finish with 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Ward finished with 18 points. Ethan Mailman had 10 points, two rebounds, one steal, and one block. Dylan Gray controlled the boards with 11 rebounds.

Hoogterp finished with 24 points for Old Town (2-4). Hoogterp also added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Neil Tourreguitart added six points (all from the foul line), four rebounds, one block, and one steal. Ethan Hayes also chipped in six points.

Both teams return to action next week, both hosting Hermon. Central hosts the Hawks Tuesday at 7 p.m., while Old Town plays host on Thursday at 7 p.m.
