Anthony Florentino scored a hat trick Saturday night as the Providence College Friars completed a sweep over Maine with a 5-3 win at Schneider Arena.
Brandon Duhaime also scored for Providence, and Erik Foley added an empty netter with 15 seconds left in the game to ice the win for the Friars.
Chase Pearson and Blaine Byron scored goals for Maine (10-15-3, 4-11-1 Hockey East), while Brendan Robbins scored on a penalty shot in the middle period as well. Cam Brown, Mark Hamilton, Nolan Vesey, and Patrick Shea added assists in the contest as well in the loss. Maine is now 0-9-3 on the road this season.
Rob McGovern started in net again and made 28 saves for Maine. Hayden Hawkey made 23 saves in the win for the Friars, as Providence improves to 16-8-4 and 8-6-2 with their seventh straight victory. Maine went 0 for 7 on the powerplay while Providence was 2 for 5.
Maine returns to action next Friday and Saturday night as they host Notre Dame. Friday nights game will be in Portland at the Cross Insurance Arena, while the scene shifts to Orono Saturday night. Both games are at 7 p.m.
