Late second period surge sends Bangor past Brewer at Fill the Alfond
ORONO- The Bangor Rams scored two goals in the final 2:19 of the second period, including a game winner by Will Pelc to defeat the Brewer Witches 6-2 in the annual Fill the Alfond boys high school hockey rivalry matchup at the University of Maine Friday night.
Brewer scored first on a beautiful rush by James Armenia on the powerplay, with a backhander that beat Bangor goalie Cody McCue at 11:20 of the opening period. The Rams tied it just under three minutes later when Marc-Andre Perron scooped up a rebound of a Ryan Beck shot and slipped it past Witches netminder Calvin Grass at 14:08. Perron gave Bangor the lead for the first time with his second of the night 3:01 into the second period, before another successful Brewer powerplay tied it at 8:27 on a tip-in by Baylon Cram. The Rams took over from there. Just after their first powerplay expired, Pelc fired one home unassisted at 12:41 on a play started by Perron. Perron added another point to his evening when he picked up an assist on Chase Caron goal that made it 4-2 at 14:26. The special teams took care of things for Bangor in the third period, as they got a shorthanded marker from Phillip Moscone and a powerplay goal from Andrew Slocum to end the scoring.
