Brooker RBI hit in extra innings keeps Stearns unbeaten

BANGOR- Brady Brooker had an RBI single in the eighth inning on Monday afternoon, lifting the Stearns Minutemen to a 6-5 Class D North baseball win over Bangor Christian. The Patriots scored first on a wild pitch on a strikeout, allowing the batter to reach and a run to come across the plate from third base, on which would of been the third out in the bottom of the second inning. Stearns responded with three runs in the third, and single runs in the fifth and seventh to build a 5-2 lead. But Bangor Christian rallied to tie it in their last at bat. Cole Payne lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield, and then Cooper Lewis with the bases loaded grounded one to the Minutemen second baseman Aidan Jamieson who had it go under his glove that allowed two runs to score to make it 5-5. Brooker came through with his RBI single in the top of the eighth, and then Owen Wilson closed the door in relief with three strikeouts in the bottom half to keep Stearns unbeaten at 7-0.

Lewis, Jeremiah Dorr, Gabe Gahagan, and Elliot Straubel had one hit each in the loss for Bangor Christian, who falls to 3-4. Payne started on the mound for the Patriots and went 5.2 innings, allowing four runs (none earned) on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Gahagan took the loss in relief. Caden Raymond led the Stearns offense with four hits. Caleb Shearer went the first 6.0 innings on the mound, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Zac Doyle won in relief, and Wilson got the save. Both teams will next face Greenville/PCHS on the road, BC on Wednesday and Stearns on Thursday.
