Sullivan and Lynch lead Ellsworth softball to comeback win over Hermon
Jayden Sullivan had three hits, including a big two run homer in the fifth inning to spark the Ellsworth Eagles softball team to a 5-4 win over Hermon on Tuesday afternoon.
Hermon jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning when Mikelle Verrill, Sophie Peterson, and Rebecca Balmas each drove home a run. The Eagles responded with one run in the bottom of the third when Sullivan singled home Sophia Lynch. Sullivan launched her homer in the bottom of the half of the fifth inning to even the score at four.
The eventual game winning run scored when Natalie Jagels hit a triple that scored Brooklynn Carter in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anna Stevens closed things out in the circle for the Eagles, retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh inning, including two strikeouts. Stevens allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out six. Sullivan had three hits and four RBI, Lynch had three hits and three runs scored. Carter and Jagels had two hits each. Ellsworth (3-2) will be at Bangor on Friday.
Verrill had two hits and two RBI to lead the Hawks offense. Braelyn Wilcox reached base three times, including two hits. Hermon (4-1) will host John Bapst on Wednesday.
