Kamryn Miller smacked a single that scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to give the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers a 5-3 win at Dexter on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was scoreless until the Howlers put three on the board in the top of the sixth inning. The rally was sparked by a double from Julia Young that scored Emma Potter. PVHS also took advantage of a Tigers error. Dexter responded quickly with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Tayler Howell-Hanson hit a triple that scored Lily Bagley and Mazie Peach to even the score.

Kallie Stone retired the side in order in the top of the seventh inning, while Leino Veino worked around two base runners to send the game to extra innings. Potter hit a one out single to start the Howlers eighth inning rally. With two outs, Veino drilled a double to put runners at second and third. Miller followed with a hit to right field that scored Potter and Veino. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers had runners on second and third with one out. Veino worked around the threat, including striking out the final batter.

Potter and Veino each had two hits and two runs scored to lead the Howlers offense. Veino allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks, while striking out 12. PVHS (11-1) will next play on Memorial Day when they host the Tigers with a noon first pitch scheduled. Peach, Bagley, and Howell-Hanson had two hits each to lead the Tigers offense. Stone allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Dexter (8-4) will play a doubleheader at Orono on Friday afternoon.

Olivia Gilmore hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday evening, leading the Brewer Witches to a 3-2 softball win over MDI at Coffin Field.

Emma Jameson got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first inning for the Witches. The score stayed the same until the top of the sixth when Taylor Grant had an RBI groundout for the Trojans to tie it 1-1. Jordan Williams laid down a sacrifice bunt in the last of the sixth to score a run to regain the lead for Brewer. An error in the top of the seventh allowed MDI to even the score once again, before Gilmore came through for her team in the bottom of the seventh to register their fourth straight win.

Jameson, Gilmore, and Madison Shaw had one hit each for Brewer. Sarah Young earned the win in the circle pitching a complete game giving up two runs (none earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out six. Grant took the loss for MDI allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Mollie Gray had two of the three hits for the Trojans. Brewer is now 9-5 and will host Hampden on Friday, while MDI is 7-7 and is also in action Friday at home against Old Town.
