Husson softball sweeps two games in Florida on Monday to even spring record
The Husson Eagles softball team beat Swarthmore College and Nichols College by scores of 4-1 and 5-3 on Monday in Winter Haven to even their early season record at 4-4.
Morgan Curtis (Gray-New Gloucester) had a game winning second inning RBI double in the first game in the victory over Swarthmore. Camryn King (Nokomis) and Julia Gregiore (Massabesic) each had two hits. Sky Johnson (2-1) went the distance in the circle allowing one run on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Tayler Watterson provided a game winning RBI single in the third inning of the second game as Husson knocked off Nichols. Tatyanna Biamby (Gorham), Bulla McCabe, along with Tori Exel (Noble) had two hits a piece while Gregiore knocked in two runs. Ana Lang (Searsport) got her first win pitching a complete game giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
The Eagles have six games left in Florida as they'll face the University of Mount Union and #18 Calvin University on Wednesday, Ithaca College and Regis College on Thursday, and North Park University and Roger Williams University on Friday.
Husson baseball sweeps Vassar College to even their record
The Husson baseball team evened their early season record at 3-3 by sweeping Vassar College 9-1 and 5-4 in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Davenport, FL on Tuesday.
Tanner Evans (Old Town) had three hits, and Jackson Curtis (Ellsworth) along with Matt Holmes (Bangor) drove in two runs each in the game one Husson win. Holmes hit two solo homeruns. Avery Lawrence (Deering, 1-0) pitched 5.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts to get the victory. In game two, the Eagles took advantage of six Vassar College errors to rally from down 3-0 to sweep the doubleheader. Akira Warren (Hall-Dale) provided the game winner with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Jack Leno (1-0) got the pitching win in relief, and Allen Wheaton (John Bapst) nailed down his first save of the season with a perfect 2.2 innings with five strikeouts.
Husson has two games left in Florida before heading back East, as they take on Mitchell College Wednesday afternoon and Marymount University on Thursday.
Husson baseball makes it four straight wins with a wild 12 inning victory over Mitchell College on Wednesday
After giving up seven runs in the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday afternoon to fall behind 10-5, the Husson Eagles rallied for three runs in the last of the seventh and two in the eighth to force extras and then won it in the 12th inning 11-10 over Mitchell College at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Davenport, FL.
The Eagles led 5-3 after six innings, before the Mariners had their big seven run outburst in the top of the seventh. Husson rallied in the bottom half to cut it to 10-8 on an RBI single by Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth), and a two-run single by Tyler Michaud. Matt Holmes (Bangor) tripled home a run, and Jackson Curtis (Ellsworth) doubled in another in the eighth to tie it 10-10. It stayed that way until the last of the 12th inning. Henry Lausier (Thornton Academy) led off with a double for Husson, and then Colin Marshall singled and Akira Warren (Hall-Dale) walked to load the bases with no outs. Cam Rendell then grounded to first and Lausier was cut down at the plate on the force out. Hunter Curtis was next up and hit one into the hole at shortstop and Marshall was able to beat the throw to the plate to end it in walk-off fashion.
Husson (4-3) pounded out 21 hits in the victory led by four each from Warren and Holmes. Warren had three RBI including a two-run homerun, and Holmes had two driven in. Hunter Curtis (two RBI) and Tanner Evans had three hits a piece, while Jackson Curtis (two hits) and Michaud also had two RBI each. Jacob Love (Messalonskee) and Chris Lusignan pitched brilliantly late in the game for the Eagles and into extra innings, as they each threw 2.2 innings allowing a combined no runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Lusignan (1-0) got the win. Husson finishes the Florida trip on Thursday against Marymount University at 4 p.m.
Husson softball splits two games, while Eagles baseball ends Southern trip with a loss in the RussMatt Invitational
The Husson softball team fell 12-3 by mercy in six innings to Ithaca College, and then beat Regis College 11-1 by mercy in five frames in contests played in Winter Haven, Florida on Thursday. Husson baseball finished play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with an 11-0 loss in a seven inning game to Marymount University (Virginia) in Davenport, FL in their last game of the trip and will now head back East.
Allie Casavant, Tatyanna Biamby (Gorham), and Bulla McCabe all had two hits and two RBI in the mercy rule win for Eagles softball over Regis College. Tori Exel (Noble) also hit a solo homerun. Jazmine Johnson (Lawrence) improved to 3-1 in the circle allowing one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Exel and Julia Gregiore (Massabesic) had RBI hits in the game one loss to Ithaca, while Danielle Masterson (Hampden) was touched up for eight earned runs over 5.0 innings. Husson (6-6) finishes off play in Florida on Friday against North Park University and Rogers Williams University, before heading back East where they're scheduled to play a doubleheader at Rhode Island College on Sunday, March 23rd. In the baseball game, Husson finished their trip at 4-4 and was held to four hits in the shutout loss to Marymount. Connor Abood (0-2) gave up four runs on six hits in 3.0 innings to take the defeat on the mound. The Eagles who went 4-1 in the RussMatt Invitational are scheduled to play a single game at Colby College in Waterville next Wednesday, March 19th at 4 p.m.
Husson softball splits doubleheader in Providence against Rhode Island College
The Husson softball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, and split a non-conference conference doubleheader with Rhode Island College in Providence. The Eagles fell 13-11 in game one, before salvaging game two by a score of 8-7.
Camryn King (Nokomis High) and Lyndsee Reed (Hermon) both hit their first collegiate homeruns in the game one loss for Husson. Reed had three hits and three RBI, while Tatyanna Biamby (Gorham), Julie Gregiore (Massabesic), and Kiara McLeod (Oxford Hills) also had three hits a piece. Gregiore contributed three RBI, and Bulla McCabe chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBI. Danielle Masterson (Hampden Academy) took the loss in the circle to drop to 1-3. In the second game- Tori Exel (Noble) had three hits and four RBI with a pair of two-run doubles, while Lexi Volinsky (Noble) drove in a run with an infield single that ended up being the game winner in the fifth inning in the Husson victory. Gregiore added three more hits, while King and Morgan Tainter had two hits each. Sky Johnson (4-3) picked up the pitching win by going the distance. The Eagles (7-9) open up their home schedule on Wednesday when they host Colby College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at O'Keefe Field in Bangor
