Berkeley College rallies past UMFK in a first round USCAA Women's Basketball Tournament game

The Berkeley College Knights would rally from a seven point deficit in the fourth quarter on Tuesday afternoon, topping the University of Maine-Fort Kent 64-60 in the quarterfinal round of the USCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament played at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York.

The Bengals had a 26-18 halftime lead behind an eight point and 13 rebound start from Cece Bell in the opening 20 minutes. The Knights started the third quarter on an 11-2 run to take the lead 29-28. Bell made a three-pointer late in the period to give UMFK the advantage back at 43-40, before Karolyn Baptiste converted a four point play 20 seconds into the fourth to extend the lead to 47-41. They led by seven 52-45 with 5:45 left. Berkeley fought back and with the game tied at 54-54, Anastasia Davis buried a game a game winning three-pointer with 1:34 remaining to send her team to the semifinals.

Baptiste led UMaine-Fort Kent in the loss with 21 points and eight rebounds. Bell finished with 19 points and 24 rebounds, while Nysia Ortiz chipped in 10 points and three assists. The Bengals (11-11) will play another game in the consolation round on Wednesday morning vs Carlow University at 11:15. Berkeley College had four players in double figures in the victory, led by Ariella Johnson and Magan Jackson who had 16 and 15 points respectively. Johnson added seven rebounds and three assists, and Jackson hauled down 10 rebounds. The Knights (14-9) will play North American University in the semifinals on Thursday night at 7:45.
