MCI 2015/2016 girls basketball preview

November 22, 2015

TEAM/SPORT: MCI Huskies/Girls Varsity Basketball
LAST YEAR’S RECORD:
6-12

HEAD COACH:
Teresa Bickford; with Assistant Coach: Jason Morton and JV Girls Coach: Amanda Riendeau

EXPECTATIONS: We’re a young team, but a talented one. We are looking forward to a very competitive year. I think there were a lot of games last year that they SHOULD have won that they didn’t. Our opponents are going to be quite surprised when they play us because we have improved so much over last year. Our ultimate goal is to be playing at the Cross Center in February and I truly believe we can do that.

STRENGTHS:
We have some pretty talented kids. We’re an extremely quick team. We have a 5″11 Freshman coming in that will also be a strong presence under the basket alongside a 6′ post who is a returning junior. Our guard play is a huge strength for us as well. They can get the ball up the floor and they aren’t afraid to shoot or get in there under the basket and mix it up.

CHALLENGES:
I believe one of our biggest challenges will be to reduce our turnovers. They pushed it so much last year and never really had a set offense. That, in turn, produced a lot of turnovers for us. We’re going to key in on that this year and try reduce those.

KEY PLAYERS: We have some great guard play this year coming from Sophomores April McAlpine and Sydney Morton. We have Christa Carr, a 5’11” Freshman who, paired with 6′ Junior Jody Bickford, will be a force underneath the basket.

COACHES COMMENTS;
Overall I believe we have a pretty strong team and I feel comfortable going to the bench. I’m looking forward to seeing how these girls do this year. I truly believe that you’ll be seeing us in February at the Cross Center!
