Maine women’s basketball rolls to victory: Black Bears host Central Connecticut State this Wednesday

The University of Maine women’s basketball team raced out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter, and never looked back in an 82-51 win over North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.

The Black Bears shot 34-51 (66.7%) from the field, including 9-15 (60.0) from three point range, and 5-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line. Maine also scored 27 points off 17 North Dakota turnovers.

Sigi Koizar recorded 16 points, 10 assists, seven steals, and six rebounds in 30 minutes. Bella Swan scored 14 points on 7-9 shooting, while Sophie Weckstrom added 17 points, and Liz Wood chipped in with 11 points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Maine (2-2) will host Central Connecticut State on Wednesday at noon at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Black Bears men’s basketball team fell 87-73 to Wagner on Saturday afternoon, despite a huge game from Issac Vann. The freshman scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. The Maine football team fell 23-6 to the University of New Hampshire in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon. Dan Collins threw for 242 yards and one touchdown in the losing effort. The Black Bears finish the season with a 3-8 record.

Maine hockey picked up their first two wins of the season in a weekend sweep of Vermont. The Black Bears won 3-2 on Friday night and 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. Maine women’s hockey fell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, despite out shooting Connecticut 38-21.
