Maine softball takes all three games at Hartford

The University of Maine softball team pounded out 17 hits on Sunday while cruising to an 11-3 win to help finish off a three game weekend America East sweep at Hartford.

Erika Leonard and Rachael Harvey both had four hits on Sunday to lead the way. Felicia Lennon also had a pair of hits and three RBI. Annie Kennedy (7-4) earned the win allowing three runs on six hits.

On Saturday Maine earned 8-3 and 11-2 wins over the Hawks. Seven different Black Bears drove in runs on the day. Harvey led the way with four hits on two homeruns and two doubles and six RBI. Janelle Bouchard had three hits including a triple and three runs scored while Alyssa Derrick drove in three as well including a homerun.

Erin Bogdonavich earned the win in the first game Saturday staying undefeated in league play and 7-4 overall. She allowed three runs and 11 hits with eight strikeouts. Molly Flowers got the win in Saturdays second game allowing two runs and two hits and had three strikeouts while improving to 9-10. Overall Maine scored 30 runs and had 39 hits and no errors in the three game sweep.

Hartford is now 6-39 overall and 2-12 in America East while Maine improves to 23-18 and 10-4 in league play. Maine finishes the regular season with a three game home series against UMBC. The first game will be 3 p.m. Friday with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
