52 Years Later: MDI Boys End Drought to Win First State Title Since 1965

March 3, 2017

AUGUSTA: MDIs first appearance in the State Title game since 1995 was a successful one as the Trojans looked nearly unstoppable as they rolled on to hoist the Gold-Ball for the first time since 1965 with a win over the Wells Warriors 59-39 Friday night in Augusta.

MDI started the game on a 10-0 run giving them a lead that they never saw dissolve as they never took their foot off the pedal. MDI was led by Andrew Phelps who tallied 16 points, Graham Good tallied 15 points 13 rebounds and five steals to lead the Trojans to victory. But it wasn’t just their offense that took center stage, their suffocating defense also played a hand in the Trojans win as they racked up 20 defensive rebounds blocked five shots and forced 20 turnovers on the Warriors.

For the Wells Warriors they were lead by Owen Berry who had 14 points. As a team the Warriors had 16 rebounds and forced 18 turnovers.
