GUILFORD— Matt Richards and Nathan Richards combined for seven points in overtime as Dexter rallied for a 67-60 win over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) on Thursday night.
Pirates senior guard Bryce Gilbert reached the 1000 career point mark when he made a free throw with 1:42 left in overtime. Gilbert finished with 35 points, including all 17 of the PCHS points after the third quarter. Gilbert sent the game to overtime when he hit the game tying shot with eight seconds left in regulation.
PCHS held the lead the entire first half, including 32-28 at halftime. Gilbert had 13 first half points, while Damyan True had all nine of his points in the first half.
Dexter outscored the Pirates 15-10 in the third quarter to take a 43-42 lead. Matt Hanscome recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers, including two big offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter. Gilbert’s shot with eight seconds left evened the score at 56.
Dexter scored the first six points of overtime. Gilbert’s two free throws with 1:42 left cut it 62-58. The Tigers secured the win with three free throw shots in the final minute.
Jacob Bickford scored a team high 20 points for the Tigers. Bickford also had six steals, four rebounds, and three asssts. Trevor Richards scored 12 points and had three steals, Brett Kusneirz scored nine points, including seven in the second quarter. Matt Richards and Nathan Richards had seven points each. Dexter (3-0) is scheduled to host Bucksport on Saturday night.
Gilbert recorded 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Eben Cooley scored five points and pulled down seven rebounds. Cameron Kane added three points, while Kobe Gilbert, Caleb Willis, Adam Bagley, and Wayne Haley chipped in with two points each. PCHS (2-1) is scheduled to travel to Penquis on Saturday.
