Carter’s three pointer sends PVHS boys basketball to ninth straight win

DEXTER- Reece Carter picked the perfect time to put in his only basket of the second half on Friday night. Carter made a three pointer with two seconds left to lift the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers to a 36-35 win over Dexter at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.

The Howlers held a 9-5 lead after the first quarter. They built the lead to 22-17 at halftime. PVHS shot 8-10 from the free throw line in the first half.

PVHS held the lead until Brett Kusnierz made consecutive baskets early in the fourth quarter to give the Tigers a 32-30 lead. Dexter had a 35-33 lead when Howlers coach Jeremy Durost called a timeout with 13.2 seconds remaining. Carter’s shot came 11 seconds later and sent PVHS to a dramatic ninth straight win.

Grant Kidon recorded 15 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists to lead the Howlers. Carter put in nine points (3 three pointers), Elijah Wood added seven points, four rebounds, and three steals. Brady Harding and Jonathan Littlefield put in two points each, while Brad McKechnie converted one free throw. PVHS (13-4) will finish the regular season when they host Greenville on Tuesday night.

Nathan Richards led the Tigers with 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Jacob Bickford added nine points and three assists, Kusnierz had seven points and nine rebounds. Trevor Richards, Matt Richards, Matt Hanscome, and Cameron Paige chipped in with two points each. Dexter (10-6) will travel to Central on Tuesday night.
