Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 288 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we nominated each of the basketball most valuable players for each class in the Northern Maine tournaments. We had the public vote on the nominations. This weeks Charles Inn female athlete of the week is Lexi Ireland. It is the seventh athlete of the week honor for Ireland. She joins Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton) (19) (3-5-18), Taylor Schildroth (George Stevens) (9) (3-5-18), Leine McKechnie (PVHS) (9) (5-20-18), Bryce Gilbert (PCHS) (9) (2-11-18), Justin Thompson (Schenck (9) (1-22-17),Karli Theberge (Hermon) (7) (5-29-16), and Gage Feeney (Washington Academy) (7) (5-16-15) as winner of athlete of the week at least seven times. Ireland and the Howlers will take on Boothbay in the class C state game on Saturday, March 2nd at 7:05 PM.
The boys athlete of the week will be announced on February 28th. To vote for boys player of the tourney click here. Our next athlete of the week winners will be announced between March 5th and March 7th. The nominations will be taken from state championships from all winter sports.
