Ethan Pelkey earns Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 291 past athlete of the week winners. 

This week, we had four Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Ethan Pelkey from Schenck high school edged out Elliot Shearer from Stearns high school to claim the Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week. Pelkey joins Ashley Leavitt (9-30-12), Morgan Thompson (2) (2-1-14), Ryan Jurgiewich (3) (5-21-16), Justin Thompson (9) (1-22-17), and Chantel Lane (5-30-15) as student/athletes from Schenck high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

  • Ethan Pelkey – Schenck – baseball- threw a complete game (5 inning) one hitter with 15 strikeouts (4 in first inning) in 13-2 win over Deer Isle-Stonington. He walked one and didn’t allow any earned runs.

Runner up

  • Elliot Shearer- Stearns – baseball- earned the pitching win by allowing only one hit and one run plus had two hits and two RBI in 7-2 win over Penquis.

Other nominations

  • Connor DeMerchant- Presque Isle- baseball- pitched a three hitter with six strikeouts in 3-0 win over Houlton.
  • Carson Prouty- Bangor – Baseball- pitched a three hit shutout with nine strikeouts and didn’t allow a walk in 5-0 win over Edward Little.
