Hannan and Davis lead Schenck to win over PCHS in season opener

GUILFORD– The Schenck Wolverines went on a 17-0 run that extended into the second half and rolled to a 53-32 win over PCHS on Saturday afternoon at Piscataquis Community Secondary School.

The teams battled to a 10-10 draw through the first eight minutes. Kobe Gilbert scored eight first quarter points for the Pirates.

Jesse Stanley gave Schenck a lead they wouldn’t give back when he made a three pointer early in the second quarter. Carter Starbird cut the deficit to 13-12. That would be the last points of the half for the Pirates. Schenck scored the last 13 points of the quarter behind six from Tyrone Davis.

The Wolverines continued their run with two early baskets in the second half. PCHS got their first points in over eight minutes of play when Wayne Haley made a three pointer with 6:40 left in the third quarter. Kaden Hannan scored nine points in the third quarter as Schenck outscored PCHS 18-10 and extended their lead to 44-22.

Kaden Hannan led the Wolverines with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Davis filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, six blocks, five assists, and three steals. Stanley had nine points, Regan Currie chipped in with eight points. Isaac Adams recorded four points, five rebounds, and three steals. Maxamus Burleigh added two points. Colby Hannan didn’t score but contributed five rebounds and four steals. Schenck (1-0) will play their home opener against Dexter on Thursday.

Gilbert scored a game high 17 points for the Pirates. He also recorded six steals, five rebounds, and two assists. Starbird had 10 rebounds to go along with his six points. Haley had three points, while Preston Ricker, Caleb Bailey, and Buddy Hutchins added two points each. PCHS (0-1) will play at Greenville on Wednesday. Schenck shot 11-14 from the free throw line, PCHS shot 1-6.
