Grant and Kinney lead Dexter girls basketball to comeback win over Schenck

DEXTER– Peyton Grant and Elizabeth Kinney combined to score 26 points to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 33-28 win over Schenck in a girls basketball game played Monday night at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.

Schenck scored the first six points of the game and held a 10-2 lead after the first quarter, and had a 15-2 advantage early in the second quarter.

The Tigers turned up the defense and Grant hit two 3 pointers as they outscored the Wolverines 9-2 and cut the deficit to 17-11 at intermission.

Kinney scored the first six points of the second half as the Tigers evened the score at 17. Schenck responded to score the next six points to take their six point (23-17) lead back. The Wolverines held a 25-20 lead entering the final quarter.

Kinney made one of two free throws to even the score at 26 with 2:15 remaining. Grant gave Dexter their first lead of the game when she made a shot with 2:05 remaining in the fourth quarter. Grant, Kinney, and Cheyenne Beem combined to make seven free throws in the fourth quarter to help Dexter secure the victory.

Cassie Russell led the Wolverines with seven points (1 three pointer). Abbi Perreault and Laura Cote finished with six points each. Madison McDunnah had five points and 11 rebounds. Kristen Russell chipped in with four points. Schenck (5-4) will play at PCHS on Thursday.

Grant led the Tigers with 14 points (2 three pointers). Kinney recorded 12 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Beem scored five points. Abby Wakefield (11) and Beem (9) combined to pull down 20 rebounds. Jozlynn Paige chipped in with two points. Dexter (8-4) will next play on January 24th at Schenck.

Dexter shot 9-19 from the free throw line. Schenck shot 3-4. The Tigers out rebounded the Wolverines 30-25.
