Avery Herrick earns third female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. This week we had seven Rowells Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Avery Herrick didn’t allow any runs and struck out 14 in 12 innings in the circle this past week, leading Dexter softball to a pair of wins. Herrick also hit three doubles and had six RBI in a win over MCI. It is third athlete of the week honor for Herrick. She earned the honors for her performance in three different sports. On September 9th, 2018 she had a big week on the soccer field. On October 18th, 2020, Herrick had a big week on the field hockey field. Herrick had a big week on the field hockey field. 

Female athlete of the week- May 3rd- May 8th

  • Avery Herrick – Dexter – softball- Pitched a complete game shut out with six strikeouts in 2-0 win over Central. Pitched a shutout with eight strikeouts and zero walks in five innings, plus belted three doubles with six RBI in 14-0 win over MCI.

Runner up

  • Jaida Case –Machias – softball- had 30 strikeouts in the circle in three games. The sophomore  had four hits, including a double, triple five stolen bases, and seven RBI in 20-7 win over Narraguagus.

Other nominations

  • Alexis (Lexi) Whitty – Central- softball- the sophomore third baseman had four hits (2 doubles, triple, and homer) and five RBI in 15-2 win over Orono.
  • Emma Streams- Bangor- softball- had four hits, including two doubles, one triple, and six RBI in 18-5 win over Cony.
  • Cam Neal- Hampden- softball- had three hits, including two home runs and three RBI in 6-5 win over Hermon.
  • Gillian Poulin- Waterville- softball- had three hits, including a home run in 19-7 win over MCI.
  • Gracie Moore- MCI- softball- had two home runs, including game winning grand slam in 7th inning in 18-15 win over Mount View. Hit three homers in 12-11 loss to Winslow.
