Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 337 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had five Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Allen Wheaton pitched a one hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead John Bapst to a win over MCI. Wheaton joins Emily Tilton (2) (9-29-11), Austin Spencer (10-21-12), and Crystal Bell (1-7-18) as student/athletes from John Bapst high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.
Male athlete of the week May 17th- May 22nd
- Allen Wheaton- John Bapst- baseball- pitched a one hit complete game shutout with 15 strikeouts in 7-0 win over MCI.
Runner up
- Michael Clark -Stearns – baseball- Pitched a complete game (113 pitches) in a 4-1 victory over Schenck. Clark gave up three hits and one walk, while striking out 17.
Other nominations
- Ty Giberson- Bucksport- baseball- had four hits and two RBI in 8-0 win over George Stevens.
- Zach Nickerson- Lawrence- baseball- pitched a complete game two hit shutout in 3-0 win over Winslow.
- Simon Allen- Central- baseball- had complete game wins over Searsport 9-3, and George Stevens 11-1
