Belfast wins overtime thriller over MCI

PITTSFIELD– The first time they played it was a one point game, they came into Monday night both 6-7, eighth and ninth in the Maine Principals’ Association class B north standings.

It makes sense that the Belfast Lions and MCI Huskies would go to overtime in the key matchup at Wright gymnasium.  The game was tied at 22 at halftime, and tied at 40 at the end of regulation. Zeke Ventura made two free throws in overtime to give Belfast a 44-43 victory.

Stan Sturgis led the way for the Lions with 18 points. Sturgis made 4 three pointers (all in the first half. Ventura added nine points (7-8 FT), Zene Bielenburg scored seven points, Garrett Hamlin added four points, while Nolan Woods and Rory Ambrose chipped in with three points each. Belfast (7-7) will play at Maranacook on Tuesday night.

Dillion Fitts and Juan Garcia Bango led the Huskies with 12 points each, Tre Grier finished with 10 points, Josh Buker added seven points, and Greg Vigue chipped in with two points. MCI (6-8) will play at Winslow on Tuesday night.
