MCI girls basketball dominates in second half to earn fifth win

PITTSFIELD- The MCI Huskies and Belfast Lions played a class B north girls/boys doubleheader Monday night at Wright Gymnasium on the campus of Maine Central Institute.

The MCI girls basketball team used a strong second half to earn a 52-36 victory in the opening game of the evening.  The Lions took a 26-24 halftime lead when Kelci Faulkingham made a shot from close to halfcourt. The Huskies outscored Belfast 28-10 in the second half, MCI shot 25-32 from the free throw line in the game, including 13-16 in the fourth quarter.

Jody Bickford led the way for the Huskies with 20 points. Bickford scored nine points in the first quarter, and shot 8-10 from the free throw line for the game. April McAlpine added 11 points for the Huskies. Sydney Morton chipped in with eight points, while Eva Bickford put in five points. Madison Boutwell went 4-4 from the free throw line, while Dee Urena and Taylor Hall scored two points each. MCI (5-9) will host Winslow on Tuesday night.

Mariah Sturgis led Belfast with 14 points, Hannah Richards added 12 points, and Faulkingham put in seven points, Macy Gale and Emma Mehuren rounded out the scoring with two points and one point respectively. Belfast (1-13) will host Maranacook on Tuesday night.
