GUILFORD– The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates girls soccer team are playing their best at just the right time.

Erin Speed recorded a hat trick to lead the Pirates to a 3-0 win over Lee/Stearns on Friday afternoon to pick up their third straight win. Speed also scored three goals in a 5-4 PCHS win over Penquis on Wednesday.

“We are finally getting the hang of things, our chemistry is working with everyone. We know we can do it,” Speed said. “We have a lot of confidence, we know that we can work together.”

That only goal in the first half was set up by Lexi Harris on a indirect kick. Harris kicked it towards the goal, where it hit off the head of Sara Almirante to the foot of Speed to the back of the goal. Having Harris more on the offensive side of things, has been part of the Pirates late season success.

“We moved Lexi up from stopper to midfield and she has been a big part of the offense lately,”PCHS coach Joe Gallant said. “That has been the biggest change we made since game 3.”

Speed scored two second half goals, one unassisted, the other assisted by Almirante. The shots were even 16-16. The play of goalie Alivia Hunt and the Pirates defense prevented any goals from the Pandas. PCHS (7-5-1) will finish the regular season at Orono on Tuesday.

Mackenzie Carter recorded six saves on 16 shots for the Pandas. Lee/Stearns (5-7-1) will finish the regular season at Washington Academy on Saturday afternoon.
