BANGOR- The Hermon Hawks earned their sixth victory of the season, and sent the John Bapst Crusaders to their first loss, with a hard fought 58-48 Class B North girls basketball victory Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
A high scoring first quarter saw Hermon taking a slight 19-18 lead after the opening eight minutes.
Hermon used a seven point effort in the second quarter from Maddie Pullen, to extend their lead up to 10 points at halftime 37-27. Crystal Bell had 16 first quarter points and 24 in the first half to lead Bapst.
John Bapst was able to get within five points on a couple of different occasions in the second half, but go no closer and dropped to 6-1 on the season.
Hermon (6-1) used a balanced scoring attack, putting four players in double figures. Lauren Plissey had 12 points, five rebounds, one block, and one steal. Pullen finished with 12 points, three rebounds, one block, and one steal. Emi Higgins had 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Alex Allain also had 11 points, and hauled in three rebounds.
John Bapst was led by Bell as she finished with a game-high 29 points. Bell also contributed four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Abbey Lagasse had eight points, one rebound, and two steals. Grace Phillipon also had eight points, five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Both teams face Central in their next game. John Bapst visits the Red Devils on Monday, while Hermon travels to Corinth on Wednesday. Both games at 7 p.m.
