The Boston College Lady Eagles outscored visiting Maine a combined 46-22 in a decisive second and third quarter Friday afternoon, to earn a 64-53 victory at Conte Forum in Boston.

The Black Bears lost leading scorer Sigi Koizar midway through the second quarter to an apparent knee injury, and she wouldn’t return.

The Eagles built the lead to as many as 29 in the third quarter. Maine got within 10 late, but ran out of time in losing their third straight game. Boston College (7-6) has now won five in a row.

Fanny Wadling and Julie Brousseau both had 11 points for Maine (7-8). Isabel Hernandez Pepe added a spark as she finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and a steal in a career high 19 minutes of action.

Georgia Pineau led Boston College with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Taylor Ortlepp added 10 points for the Eagles.

BC shot 47 percent from the floor in the game, compared to 32 percent for Maine. The Eagles built a comfortable 17 point halftime lead by shooting nearly 60 percent in the first half, while Maine struggled at 25 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

According to Coach Richard Barron, Koizar suffered a tissue injury in her leg and could miss some time. There is no word on how much time the star point guard could miss.

Maine now heads into conference play when it opens up the America East schedule Wednesday night at 7 p.m. when they visit Vermont.
